On Saturday, 21 January 2017, two Cape Town open water swimmers, Kerry Kopke and Louisa Joubert, organised a group of about 30 ladies to swim 1km topless in the sea in the unofficial “Bosom Buddies” swim. The “Bosom Buddies” swim was organised to raise funds for breast cancer awareness with PinkDrive as our chosen charity.
Some of the women were seasoned swimmers but many were swimming in the sea for the first time, all prepared to brave the cold of the Atlantic sea at Clifton, Cape Town in support of a good cause. We donned our pink caps, painted our nails pink, and all bravely completed a topless swim through the choppy waters at Clifton. We had a great range of ladies from 22 years old to 60-somethings and it was a wonderful female-only celebration with hot chocolate and cupcakes afterwards.
In total we raised R4810 for PinkDrive from the swim. In 2018 we will do it again at an undisclosed location, date and time.
